This book arose from my experience with Alzheimer's disease, a particular form of dementia from which my own mother has been suffering for many years. I orginally wrote it for her, and it was indeed a tremedous success: she has read it several hundred times already.

It is a book of few words: mostly short, sometimes baffling, incitations to change the way we think. Each text is accompanied by photos of a Paris sunrise. In my own contemplation of each new dawn, I sought to live in the freshness of the moment that it inspired. Where my mother became incapable of remembering the past, I would make a conscious effort to override it.

You do not need to lose your memory in order to imagine what that might be like, and I believe we all have something useful to learn about how we relate to the past. I hope you will read this book as someone who chooses to focus on the fullness of the present, rather than someone afflicted with loss of memory. Make it a pledge to love your life, moment by moment.
